New Delhi, Mar 2 : West Indies captain Darren Sammy hailed fast bowler Kemar Roach’s ‘hat-trick’, which helped them crush the Netherlands in their World Cup Group B fixture.
Roach claimed the first hat-trick of the 2011 tournament, and the first ever in a World Cup by a West Indian, finishing with superb figures of 6-27.
The 22-year-old had removed Pieter Seelaar, Bernard Loots and Berend Westdijk off the last three deliveries of the match at New Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla Stadium.
“It was great, it was brilliant. His role in the team is to be a strike bowler for us, and it was important that he went out and did it,” The Age quoted Sammy, as saying.
“It’s important to see us winning, but not only winning, but winning convincingly, and Roachy came out and put his hand up and doing what he came to do for the team,” he added.
West Indies will now face Bangladesh in Dhaka on Friday.
