Dumminy bowlers take SA to knockout stages

South African bowlers put up a lively show to back up JP Dumminy’s terrific innings to take their side to the quarter final stage by scoring an easy 131 run victory over Ireland in group B match played at Eden Gardens.

Irish batsmen couldn’t follow the good work of their bowlers as they were folded for just 141 runs while chasing a target of 272 runs against some quality bowling performance from South African side.

At no time during the chase Ireland looked to threaten the target with wickets falling at regular intervals and African side not ready to give an inch and dominating the batsmen from the word go.

Morne Morkel removed both openers in his opening spell which was full of hostility, pace and bounce and came back in the end to remove the last man to get out.

South African spinners Robin Peterson who is showing improvement every game he plays and Johan Botha were impressive again to share four Irish wickets between two of them.

While Peterson has three for 32 in his eight, Botha had same figures except for taking two wickets less than team mate and put the Irish chase completely in shambles which never looked to recover after early wickets were lost.

The positive thing as far as South Africa are concerned was the way Kallis bowled as he not only cranked up high pace but looked very menacing as well. In the end his figures read two wickets for 20 runs in six overs.
Gary Wilson was only Irish batsman that looked settled at the crease as he scored an attractive 31 off 48 balls including four boundaries and a six but rest of the batsmen succumbed to the pace and spin of Proteas bowlers.

JP Dumminy rounded off his day with a solitary wicket after his 99 run innings had helped his team to recover from a position when it had lost five of its frontline batsmen at 117 runs to a decent total of 272.
He was, however, unlucky to have missed out on a well deserved century when he was holed out in the deep in pursuit of scoring some quick runs in the last over.
