Tue, 12 Apr 2011 - IP Bangalore vs IP Mumbai, IPL 2011, 8th Match - Bulletin

Sachin, Rayudu take Mumbai to second win

Skipper Sachin Tendulkar and young batsmen Ambati Rayudu combined together for the second wicket to score undefeated 110 runs helping their side to chase down a target of 141 without much of a fuss.

Both scored a half century each to make Bangalore bowling unit look an ordinary one as master blaster and rising star Rayudu toyed with the bowled to get over the line.

After losing Davi Jacobs who played a breezy knock of 22 off 16 balls including a massive six off Zaheer Khan, the veteran and youngsters take attack to the bowlers with Sachin concentrating on playing traditional strokes while Rayudu innovated on many occasions to hit the boundaries regularly.

Sachin ,as he did against Delhi anchored the innings, was very sedate waiting for loose balls to be dispatched during his knick of 55 runs off 47 balls including seven hits to the fence.

Rayudu complemented Sachin, who was along into his ears guiding him how to approach the innings, cracked some ferocious strokes and using the depth of the crease effectively to hit nine boundaries in his 50-ball 63.

Sachin showed the fantastic gesture by sharing his man of the match award with Rayudu.

Earlier after asked to bat first, Bangalore had worst possible start to the proceeding as they lost opener Mayank Agarwal to the first ball of the innings when Lasith Malinga produced a scorching yorker to have stumps cart-wheeling.

Things slumped further as Kieran Pollard accounted for Virat Kohli and his dismissal put a lid on the scoring rate as Tilkeratne Dilshan and AB de Villiers took their time against all-round and disciplined bowling performance of Mumbai.

Mumbai fielders were chirping in the field to egg their bowlers up who were brilliant bowling stump to stump line giving batsmen nothing to hit away.

Once the batting pair of Dilshan and de Villiers for set, they played the big shot but Mumbai bowlers never let them to take the game away as they kept the disciplined going even when the slog was on.

Dilshan remained not out on 52-ball 59 but was no way near his best as he struggled form timing and fluency with pitch holding up.

He hit four boundaries and two sixes most of them in later stages of his innings while de Villiers took 36 balls for his 38 including three fours and a six.

Mumbai spinners Harbhajan Singh and Murtaza Ali went wicket less but very thrifty going for 27 and 26 runs respectively in four overs each while Munaf Patel was hardly scored off conceding only ten runs in his ten.

Malinga was amongst the wickets taking two wickets both of them clean bowled while Pollard also chipped in with two wickets to put brakes on Bangalore scoring rate.
