Trott admits it's hard to move on without former captain Strauss

London, Oct 23: England batsman Jonathan Trott has said it has been hard time for him, adjusting  to life in the dressing room without former captain Andrew Strauss.

England head to Dubai for a three-day training camp before moving on to India for the four-Test series, and it will be the first time Trott has gone into a major series since his debut in 2009 without Strauss leading the way.

“It will be a bit strange without Strauss there,” the Daily Express quoted Trott, as saying.

“Every captain has their own unique talents and his were that he was very level-headed, he never got flustered. He was a good tactician and led from the front,” he added.

Strauss departed on a low note, with England not only losing the South Africa series but also their No1 world ranking in the process, but Trott said: “I hope he’ll look at all the positive stuff he did – winning the Ashes twice and getting us to No1 in the world.”

“It was quite difficult for me to take [his retirement] at the time. It was hard to move on. When a captain hands you your first cap, as Andrew did with me, there is an attachment there. I was sad that I wouldn’t play with him again,” he added.

Trott also backed Strauss’ successor Alastair Cook to bring England back on track during their series against India.

“Alastair is a very similar character to Andrew – that’s why they formed such a good opening partnership,” said Trott, who wants to stay at No3 in the batting line-up despite the Strauss-sized hole at the top of the order,’ Trott said.

“I’m looking forward to playing under Alastair. It will be a springboard for us if we can win the series after a tough few months. We desperately want to get back to No1,” he added.
