Sun, 20 Mar 2011 - Kenya vs Zimbabwe, World Cup 2011, 41st match Group A - Bulletin

Zimbabwe rout Kenya to sign off on high

Zimbabwe ended their world cup campaign on a high with a morale-boosting 161-run win over Kenya at Eden Gardens.

Chasing a mammoth 308, Kenya never looked like close to winning as they were skittled out for paltry 147 in 36 overs.

Zimbabwe spinners were all over the Kenyans batsmen as they accounted for seven of ten wickets that fell in Kenya’s innings. Lamb, Craemer and veteran Price all scalped two wickets a piece while Utseya too picked up a wicket.

For Kenya, Odhiambo top scored with a 47-ball 44.

The match also marked an end of era for Kenyan cricket with their finest batsman ever- the veteran Steve Tikolo- signing off his 14-year old international career here.

Earlier, on a slow low Eden garden wicket Zimbabwe skipper Elton Chigumbura won the toss and opted to bat first.

After the shaky start that saw openers departing with scoreboard reading 36 for 2, the duo of Tatendra Taibu(53 off 74) and Vusi Sibanda(71 off 68) propped up the innings with a sterling 110-run stand for the third wicket.

Riding on the platform Taibu and Sibanda laid the duo of Craig Ervine (66 off 54) and Elton Chigumbura (38 off 41) capitalized and added 105 runs in no time.

The late middle order kept the surge going and added 32 in last 12 deliveries to take the score to 308.

Zimbabwe win by 161 runs.

Price-Less Scalps Prosper Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe 64 for 5 in 17 overs

Price has opened the bowling in 5 out 6 matches Zimbabwe have played in this world cup. He rose to the occasion again and took two early wickets to put kenya in trouble. Kenyan batsmen were deceived by his high quality left arm spin mixed with Utseya's off breaks.

Kenya crumble as wickets tumble

It is a mix of everything- bad batting, pressure of a mammoth total, good fielding and accurate bowling. It all resulted in to Kenya’s downfall at the Edens. They could not cope with the pressure and lost three quick wickets within the first ten overs. David Obuya was the first to go lbw by Mpofu followed by his brother Colins Obuya. Stand in captain and swansong man Steve Tikolo could last long either as one of the most economical bowlers of the tournament Ray Price( ecomony of 3.54 ) lived up to his reputation and sent him packing.

Price 's spin partner also joined the party dismissing Tanmay Mishra in the eleventh over as the scoreboard reads 44-4 in 10.3 overs for Kenya
