London, Aug 5: Former English cricketer Alec Stewart believes Kevin Pietersen should reconsider his retirement from the One Day Internationals (ODIs) after scoring a brilliant unbeaten 149 against South Africa in the second Test at Headingley.
Stewart felt that Pietersen with his talent should rethink his international exit, as he should want to look back and be very proud of his achievements and the impact he has had on the world game, without any regrets.
“A player of such rare talent should be appreciated, and it’s a shame that we are now deprived of seeing him in the international limited over and T20 arenas after his premature retirement from the shorter form of the game,” the Daily Mirror quoted Stewart, as saying, in his column.
Stewart believes that at 32 years of age, Pietersen could smash every England batting record, “so long as his passion and desire remains.”
“Love him or hate him, it was impossible not to have enjoyed Kevin Pietersen’s batting yesterday. He has a touch of genius about him, and it was on full show in front of a packed Headingley crowd. His wonderful century was a masterful display from a man who writes his own headlines,” Stewart wrote.
The former Three Lions’ captain, in his column, claimed that with Pietersen’s “natural talent to attack pace and spin alike, and added no bowler is safe when his bat is flowing so freely.”
Stewart said that KP should be told to reconsider his ODI retirement, and allow his talents to be available to England.
