Sri Lankan cricketer Samaraweera recalls Lahore terror attackLahore, May 24 : Sri Lankan cricketer Thilan Samaraweera recalled the terror attack in Lahore in which he had a sustained bullet injury. The Sri Lankan Cricket team was attacked in Lahore on March 3, 2009; as their team bus was due to enter Gaddafi Stadium. Describing it as the worst day of his life, Samaraweera said he has preserved the bullet, as it was "lucky" for him because it entered a few centimeters away from the knee. He said had the bullet entered his bone or nerve, the injury would have been far more serious and potentially career threatening. Samaraweera is hopeful of Sri Lanka''s win in the series against England, which commences this Thursday. He said the performance of experienced batsmen would be crucial and that the series is an opportunity for young players to showcase their talent. "Of course the plan is to win the series. Last time we drew the series in England and this time we want to go one better. This time around we have a new bowling attack due to guys like Malinga, Murali and Vaas not being part of the squad, but this is a good opportunity for the young players to shine and make a name for themselves and show what they are capable of. " The performance of our experienced batting line-up is key and myself and the guys are really looking forward to the challenge." PakPassion.Net quoted him, as saying. © ANI |
