Sat, 21 May 2011 - IP Delhi vs IP Pune, IPL 2011, 68th Match - BulletinRain Gods ensure Delhi get Wooden-Spoon Delhi’s hopes of avoiding a last place finish on home turf were washed away by an unseasonal spell of rain that lashed Feroz Shah Kotla after just 10.1 overs were bowled in the first innings against Pune.. The persistent rain ensured that the ground was unfit for any more play and when the match was abandoned with Delhi score reading 56 for 3, the home team by virtue of the split points earned the unwanted ‘wooden-spoon’ title. As has been the case in recent past, Delhi without Virendar Sehwag are very feeble on paper as well as on the field of play. Their stand-in skipper, James hopes elected to bat on a decent surface, David Warner started the fireworks hitting Alfonso Thomas for a four and a six in the third over of the innings. Debutant James Faulkner was carted for a maximum over long-on before he got his revenge deceiving Warner with a back-of-the-hand yorker that knocked out his off-stump. His opening partner Naman Ojha tried his best to throw bat at ball, but hardly made a connection. Another IPL first-timer Shrikant Mundhe relieved Ojha of the misery with a catch at third-man. Pune strengthened their grip on the proceedings through Mitchell Marsh’s searing yorker that cleaned-up Mathew Wade. Then the skies opened and the campaign of two teams that haven’t set the stage on fire came to a fitting end. © eContent.in |
