Rain forces abandonment without any playRain could well prove one of the key factors in deciding the semi-final after forcing Somerset and South Australia Redbacks to share points in a crucial Group B match in Champions League. With no letup in the rain at Chinnaswamy for almost two hours leading to the puddles of water in out-field, the umpires decided to call off the match. Not a single delivery was bowled in the match owing to the persistent rain. The heavens opened up moments after the unchanged Redbacks had decided to have a bowl on the juicy track. The English county side Somerset was boosted with their guns players Joss Butler and Craig Kieswetter returning to the fold after finishing the international commitments with their national side. Having to contend with a point each, Somerset and the Redbacks are placed at 2nd and third spot respectively in the points table. The Australian side will be disappointed by the result for they have only one game left and only three points to their name. Somerset, on the other hand, have two games still in the bag and are favorites. © eContent.in |
