Proteas not driven by chance to replace England as No1 side: AmlaLondon, July 13: South Africa batsman Hashim Amla has said the Proteas are not driven by the chance to replace England as the No1 Test side. The Proteas begin their three-match series against England at Lord’s next Thursday. And if No. 2 ranked South Africa can defeat the hosts they will reach the summit for the first time since July 2009. Amla said: “We haven’t put any emphasis on it. For us it’s about doing what we do best and sticking to the processes as best we can. If we do that, then hopefully the results will follow. Whatever the rankings show afterwards then so be it. The most important thing for us is to stick to our way of playing cricket and playing as positively as possible.” Amla said they will be hoping to make veteran keeper Mark Boucher proud back home, The Sun reports. He said: “Boucher was a great servant of South African cricket. His record speaks for itself. He will be missed in the team. What he brought to this team has shaped it in many ways. “But we can only take the positives out of it and try and continue the legacy that he has left behind. And hopefully we can put in some good performances and make him proud back home. I think it has united us as a team more than anything.” © ANI |
