Prior disappointed over ICC decision to delay Test Championship until 2017London, Oct 25 : England wicketkeeper Matt Prior fears he will never lift a Test Championship trophy after the International Cricket Council (ICC) shunted it until 2017. The ICC had earlier scheduled the inaugural championship for 2013. England, who won their last five series to be World No.1, would have been favourites to win the competition. Prior, who will be 35 in 2017, says that his best chance of a trophy to celebrate England as world champions over the five-day course has probably disappeared. “It’s hugely disappointing. I regard Test cricket as the purest form of the game, and it would have been great to have a competition where you crown the world champions instead of handing the No.1 spot to someone at the end of a series,” the Daily Mirror quoted Prior, as saying. “I don’t know why they pushed it back, but I know the players would have relished it and it’s a bit of a worry that it’s not going to happen for at least another six years,” he added. © ANI |
