Lahore, July 24: Senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official Intikhab Alam has been entrusted with the task of convincing ex-spinner Abdul Qadir to accept an assignment, who lost his cool after being given a short contract extension.
Qadir, who took 236 Test and 132 one-day wickets, was appointed as chief coordinator of club cricket late last year. He was also given the job of coaching and recently supervised the national skills trials throughout the country with former teammates Sarfraz Nawaz and Ijaz Ahmed, reports the Daily Times.
PCB sources said Qadir was upset with the board after he was given a three-month extension on his coaching contract, which expired on June 30.
"The board later tried to pacify the leg-spinner by extending his contract to a year, but he has refused to relent and return to duty," the source said.
"Qadir became upset when he learnt that after his contract expired on June 30, he was given only a three-month extension. Later the board offered him a one-year deal but he is demanding a three-year one as he says this is the period required to restructure club cricket," the source added.
"Intikhab has been trying to convince Qadir to accept the one-year contract, but the latter has refused to even come to the PCB headquarters at the Gaddafi stadium," the source further added.
