PCB demands explanation from Miandad, Iqbal for criticising selectors

Lahore, June 27 : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought explanations from its Director General Javed Miandad and his nephew Faisal Iqbal for criticising the selectors and the board.

Iqbal was not included in the 17-man Test squad for the tour of England.

“I have got the letter and I have also dispatched my answer. I am well aware of the code of conduct for contracted players and that I have not violated any clause,” The Daily Times quoted Iqbal, as saying.

“I don’t see the justification for dropping me.I don’t understand on what grounds the selectors have dropped me. I don’t know what is going on but my exclusion came as a complete shock to me. I never expected this. After being in and out of the team in the last 10 years I feel I have matured as a test player now and they have dropped me,” Iqbal, who has played 26 Tests for Pakistan, had said.
Both Miandad and Iqbal had also lashed out at the selectors for ignoring former skipper Younis Khan for the upcoming exhaustive England tour.

According to sources, the PCB, in its letters to Miandad and Iqbal, has asked them to explain reasons behind violating the board’s code of conduct by making statement against it in the media.

“Miandad has been reminded that he is a signatory to the service rules and conduct for employees and disciplinary action can be taken against him,” sources said.

“Similarly, Faisal has been told his central contract can be terminated for speaking out against the selectors and board in the media,” they added.

PCB insiders said that board chairman Ijaz Butt had directed the chief operating officer (COO) Wasim Bari to seek an explanation from the uncle-nephew duo.

“Butt is not happy with the statements of both Miandad and Faisal,” sources privy to the development said.
