Sydney, Jan 15 : Former West Indies pace bowler Corey Collymore has predicted that Australia will soon become the sport''s super power due to its sound infrastructure.
Both Collymore and his compatriot Dwayne Bravo admitted that Australian rookie cricketers have benefited from state- of the –art pavilions, well-organized competitions, which Caribbean players lack.
Collymore said his experience at a recent coaching clinic at a Sydney private school highlighted the differences between the facilities in the cricketing world.
''''I was at St Joseph''s [Hunters Hill] and it was totally different to back home. They had two or three centre wickets, they have turf nets and a massive field,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Collymore, as saying.
''''At home [in grassroots cricket], we have the one single pitch that we play on and train on. In club cricket you might get two pitches. I remember sometimes at school we''d put a net halfway across the pitch so we could use both sides of the wicket at the one time and that wasn''t really ideal for the batters or bowlers,'''' he added.
Collymore, who played 30 Tests for the West Indies between 1999 and 2007, is a member of Blacktown''s first-grade team in the Sydney competition.
