Oz selectors pick White in 15-man squad for T20 World CupSydney, Aug 16 : Australian selectors have given former Twenty20 captain Cameron White another chance to impress at the national level, by selecting him in a 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup that is to be played in Sri Lanka. The selected bunch is the same as the group picked for three matches against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates before the T20 World Cup, which Australia has never won. George Bailey, who replaced White as captain last summer, will lead a squad ranging in age from 19-year-old Pat Cummins to 41-year-old Brad Hogg. White was dropped after averaging 7.86 for the Melbourne Stars in the first season of BBL, but has since thumped his way back with striking returns in the Indian Premier League and England''s domestic Twenty20 league. “There is a great deal of explosive strike power in the batting line-up that could see Matthew Wade at six, Cameron White at seven and either Dan Christian or Glenn Maxwell at eight,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted national selector John Inverarity, as saying. “The seam bowling has depth with Clint McKay, Pat Cummins, Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitch Starc along with all-rounders Shane Watson and Dan Christian, and to a lesser extent Michael Hussey, who could be useful for an occasional over or two,” he added. “Similarly there is depth in the spin bowling department with Brad Hogg, Xavier Doherty and also all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and David Hussey. You can then add to that the possibility of the wrist spin of Cameron White and David Warner,” he said. © ANI |
