Bangalore, Aug 30 : New Zealand batsmen are unlikely to get respite from spin bowling in the second Test to played in Bangalore against India, as the Kiwis inability to cope with spin was exposed during the first Test in Hyderabad.
In the Hyderabad Test, 18 of New Zealand’s 20 wickets fell to spinners Pragyan Ojha and Ravichandran Ashwin, leading to India’s win by an innings and 115-runs.
With the second test to start on Friday, fast bowler Doug Bracewell said the wicket was looking green and the weather forecast was for cloudy skies, but he did not expect that to last.
He said: “Looking at the wicket there looks to be a little bit of grass on it at the moment but I''d say they''ll definitely shave it off and make sure it''s dry. At the moment it looks quite nice and I think this overcast weather''s also helping us and if it stays like this it might work into our favour a little bit.
“It''s tough being one-nil down in a two match series but we''ve got to forget that game and take out the positives we can,” syuff.co.nz quoted him, as saying.
Former New Zealand batting coach Mark Greatbatch told Fairfax Media yesterday that he questioned whether today''s batsmen were taking on board years of coaching.
He said the entire squad and fringe players have had access to resources and coaches to help with facing spin but they didn''t seem to be improving.
