New Oz bowling coach confidant of filling 'international experience' void with 'skills and tactics'Sydney, Aug. 5: Australia''s new bowling coach, Allister de Winter, has shown confidence that he can overcome his lack of international experience by winning the trust of the nation''s fast bowlers, and believes that his skills and tactics would boost his players’ performance. The former Tasmanian fast bowler claimed that he intends to work with coaches and medical staff to investigate the injury crisis and establish a plan to get the fast bowlers through to next year''s Ashes unscathed. “I have a lot of faith in what I''ve learnt and the skills I have got behind me, technically and tactically. I know that challenge will be there, that I haven''t played any international cricket, but in this case Cricket Australia have recruited a coach and I am a career coach,” The Age quoted De Winter, as saying. “I know the questions will get asked from time to time, but if the bowling group are performing well I''m sure those questions will be in the background rather than the foreground,” he added. De Winter, who already has a strong bond with one of the workhorses of the Australian attack, Ben Hilfenhaus, suggested a new approach was needed to ensure pacers are available when they are needed the most. “I think we need to have a group of stakeholders say, ''How do we want our players to prepare for Test cricket?'' Work back from there, and maybe, be a bit more targeted and strategic in how we prepare our players. They may not necessarily have to play all forms of the game if we want to improve our Test cricket,” he said. De Winter, who played 21 first class matches and 10 List A matches for Tasmania between 1986 and 1993, is expected to join his team on the VB Tour of the United Arab Emirates, where Australia will play Afghanistan and Pakistan. © ANI |
