Mon, 28 Feb 2011 - West Indies vs Netherlands,World Cup 2011, 13th match Group B - BulletinWI decimate Dutch as Roach gets Hat-trick Fast bowler Kemar Roach’s six wickets including a hat trick blew away Netherlands batting line –up to give West Indies a comprehensive 215 run victory in their group B match played at Ferozshah Kotla Ground, Delhi. West Indian bowlers led by Roach and left arm spinner Suleiman Benn who opened the bowling with Roach backed up the good batting display by their team by a terrific bowling performance getting Dutch all out for paltry 115.
Roach who took two wickets in his early spell came back to take all last four wickets to have fallen was too hot to handle for the Dutch batsmen and took his first hat trick in ODI’s by getting PM Seelar, BP Loots and BA Westdijk on three consecutive deliveries to rattle the Netherlands.
Benn was also amongst wickets taking three if first four wickets to have fallen with his figures reading three for 28 in his eight overs.
Only man to show some fight against disciplined West Indian bowling line-up was Tom Cooper who along with Mudasir Bukhari put on 57 runs for the 7th wicket partnership to prevent Dutch from further blushes. He was stranded at 55 not out including nine hits to the fence and showed that his experience of playing in Australian domestic cricket.
Earlier, thanks to the fifties from Chris Gayle, Devon Smith and Keiron Pollard, West Indies scored a huge total of 330 runs in their allotted fifty overs after put into bat by Netherlands captain, Peter Borren. West Indies openers provided the strong base to their middle order by posting 100 runs in 17th over and Sarwan and destructive Pollard capitalized on the start by helping their side to cross 300 mark.
Interestingly, it was Devon Smith rather than Chris Gayle who went after the Dutch bowling overpowering his senior partner by playing some beautiful cover drives to complete his half-century off 49 balls including nine fours before edging BP Loots to wicketkeeper. Gayle had no boundary in first 23 balls he faced but all of a sudden exploded to give impetus to his innings. He used his experience and was more concerned about rotating the strike over and hit some lusty blows in between.
He shared 68 run 2nd-wicket partnership with young Darren Bravo who played a breezy 30 and was third wicket to have fallen in the innings in the first over of the bating power-play for rather circumspect 110 ball 80 runs hitting two sixes and seven fours paving a way for Pollard show. Pollard didn’t disappoint his captain after promoted up in the batting order was in murderous mood from the start of his innings clearing the straight boundary easily.
He got his half century off 23 balls-fastest in 2011 world cup- hitting five fours and four towering sixes in his 27-ball 60. Sarwan, on other end, was at his run accumulating best hitting some crisp flicks and drives to score his 49 runs off 42 including a six.
It was again left arm spin of Peter Seelar that stood out for Netherlands giving away only 45 runs in his 10 overs. The wickets included that of Darren Bravo, Shiv Chanderpaul and Darren Sammy but it was way he bowled to
Gayle who was forced to show him respect that impressed one and all.
Other Dutch bowlers didn’t have much to boast off going at more than 6 runs per over and fielding of Netherlands players didn’t help either. |
