McGrath backs Broad to emulate his achievementsMelbourne, Jan 15 : Aussie legend Glenn McGrath has reckoned that England bowler Stuart Broad can become a great player, and will most likely to emulate his own achievements. "Stuart Broad''''''''s got the ability to become a great fast bowler for England. He''''''''s aggressive, he’s quick, he hits the pitch hard and he gets good players out,” The Daily Express quoted him, as saying. “I’ve always got a lot of time for tall lanky bowlers like me – and Stuart reminds me of myself. I reckon he can be as good as he wants to be,” he added. McGrath disliked conceding runs to the extent that he would curse himself and opposition batsmen, if he gave boundaries or umpires’ decisions went against him, the paper reported. Broad was also earlier fined 50 per cent of his match fee for losing temper in a one-day international match against Sri Lanka at Headingley, but McGrath said the former has learnt his lesson. “Broad’s only 25 so he’s still learning and he’s got a long career ahead of him. Consistency is the way to go at Test level and with other good bowlers around him like James Anderson, Chris Tremlett and Tim Bresnan, Broad’s only going to improve,” he said. “When you’ve got a great bowling attack the rest of the team works around it and grows in confidence,” he added. © ANI |
