Legendary Denis Compton's grandson Nick takes inspiration from Eng batsman TrottLondon, May 10: Legendary cricketer Denis Compton’s grandson Nick Compton is taking inspiration from England’s Test batsman Jonathan Trott, to make a name for himself. Compton takes on the West Indies for the Lions today, and instead of trying to play like his grandfather Denis, a dashing top order batsman, he wants to be more pragmatic like Trott. Trott has become England’s rock at No.3 and is the overwhelming success story of a player, who has performed well in the county circuit in recent years, and now Compton has his eyes on a similar prize. “I have always been incredibly proud of what my grandfather achieved in the game. And I never tire of hearing about him because he is held in such affection. But I am out to make a name for myself,” The Daily Mirror quoted Compton, as saying. “He passed away 15 years ago and his legacy will always be there, but my name won’t get me picked for any team, my only currency is runs,” he added. Compton believes it is a good sign that the England and Wales Cricket Board is rewarding domestic level players well at the international stage, and Trott is the biggest example of it. “It is great to see the ECB reward players who are producing. First division cricket is tough and has produced some fantastic players along the way, just look at Jonathan Trott and the way he has come in and succeeded,” Compton said. “Jonathan has definitely been a huge inspiration and I think the way he goes out there and plays at his pace, has been a real example of how to succeed,” he added. © ANI |
