Three wickets in the last 25 minutes of the day brought some cheer for Uttar Pradesh in their crucial Ranji Trophy match against former champions Mumbai here on Tuesday. Seamer Bhuvaneshwar Kumar accounted for two wickets while leggie Piyush Chawla got one. Despite the late strikes, Mumbai were comfortably placed at 203 for three at stumps.
Play started almost 150 minutes behind schedule due to foggy conditions and had to be called off 15 overs earlier due to bad light.
The RP Singh-led bowling attack was exposed again. UP have failed to take 20 wickets in a match this season and things seem to heading in the same direction. The mediocre bowling allowed the opening combination of Kaustub Pawar and Sushant Marathe to thrive on a flat pitch at the Dr Akhilesh Das Stadium.
The left-handed Marathe's assault against RP paid off and the visitors were 33 without loss after 10 overs.
