Wellington, July 18: New Zealand would look to take advantage of West Indies’ mystery spinner Sunil Narine’s inexperience at the Test level in the upcoming series after their Caribbean horrors in the limited over format.
The Black Caps move to Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua for the next fortnight, for a warm-up game and then the first test.
Inadequate technique from Kiwi batsmen to face quality spin attack had once again haunted them throughout the Caribbean one-day series, which they lost 4-1.
Narine was clearly player of the ODI series, after taking 5-27 in St Kitts in the final match on Tuesday.
The Trinidadian''s series figures of 13 wickets at 11.23 were extraordinary, but in his only test, he bowled a wicket less 15 overs spell in Birmingham in June against England.
New Zealand captain Ross Taylor hailed Narine as the difference between the sides but noted he was ‘very new to the test game’.
“Test-match cricket is totally different. I''m sure you can crowd the bat but you don''t actually have to go after Narine,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Taylor, as saying.
“When he''s at his best is when batsmen have to attack him. It''s finding ways of getting off strike and not being under pressure,” he added.
