Karnataka beat UP; Abhimanyu Mithun claims hat-trick on debut (Ranji Trophy Round-up)Meerut, Nov 6 (IANS) Medium pacer Abhimanyu Mithun made a sensational start to his first-class career, claiming a hat-trick and finishing with 11 wickets to power Karnataka to a 185-run victory over Uttar Pradesh on the final day of the Ranji Trophy Super League here Friday. Mithun dismissed Piyush Chawla, Amir Khan and R.P Singh for his hat-trick. The medium pacer claimed a match haul of 11 wickets, having taken six for 86 from the first innings. Karnataka pocketed five points from their first match. Delhi, which piled up 591 in the first innings, enforced the follow on after bowling out Baroda for 326 with medium-pacer Sumit Narwal claiming five wickets. Delhi will have be satisfied with three points on account of their first innings lead. Bengal were left to score 174 runs for victory which they made with three wickets in 54.2 overs. Karnataka vs. Uttar Pradesh: Karnataka 405 and 311/5 declared against Uttar Pradesh 279 and 252 (Mohammad Kaif 54, Bhuvnehswar Kumar 63; Abhimanyu Mithun 5-95, Sunil Joshi 2-16). Maharashtra vs. Bengal: Maharashtra 179 and 319 (Harshad Khadiwal 114, Rohit Motwani 67; Saurashish Lahiri 4-87, Ranadeb Bose 5-57) against Bengal 325 and 175/3 (Deep Dasgupta 54, Wriddhiman Saha 59, Manoj Tiwari 35 not out; Sajin Sureshnath 2-38). Gujarat vs. Orissa: Gujarat 270 and 301/6 declared (Niraj Patel 107 and Parthiv Patel 76 not out and Bhavik Thaker 52; Paresh Patel 2-64) against Orissa 192 and 220(Pravanjan Mullick 40, Rakesh Mohanty 71 not out, Subhrajit Sahoo 39, Mehul Patel 3-21, Salil Yadav 3-52, Rujul Bhatt 2-44). Hyderabad vs. Himachal Pradesh: Hyderabad 328 and 189 (Tirumalasetti Suman 46, Ambati Rayudu 42; Mohinderraj Sharma 1-46, Ashok Thakur 5-22) against Himachal Pradesh 350 and 136/8 (Bhavin Thakkar 55, Sangram Singh 27; Pragyan Ojha 5-52). Punjab vs. Mumbai: Punjab 259 and 311/7 ( Ravi Inder Singh 58, Uday Kaul 62, Pankaj Dharmani 46, Gaurav Gambhir 50 not out; Zaheer Khan 3-92, Abhishek Nayar 2-63) against Mumbai 471/9 declared. |
