Kallis takes Bangalore to crushing win

Jacques Kallis took three wickets and hit a polished unbeaten 43 as Royal Challengers Bangalore crushed Guyana by nine wickets in a Champions League Twenty20 match at SuperSport Park Sunday.

Guyana were bowled out for 103 with Kallis taking three for 16. Then the South African and Rahul Dravid (33) put on 78 for the first wicket as Bangalore raced to victory with 46 balls to spare.

Robin Uthappa finished off the one-sided contest by hitting 25 not out off only eight balls.

Guyana, surprise winners of the West Indian Twenty20 competition, were hopelessly outgunned against the powerful Indian Premier League team.

Their batsmen never looked likely to dominate a well-balanced Bangalore bowling attack after Ramnaresh Sarwan, their captain and only major international star, was bowled by Kallis for seven.

Batting at number three, Sarwan hit Kallis for six off the second ball of his innings but lost his off stump to the next ball from the South African all-rounder.

"The boys bowled exceptionally well," said Bangalore captain Anil Kumble. "Once Ramnaresh Sarwan was out cheaply the pressure was on them and we kept getting wickets at regular intervals."

Sarwan admitted his young team had not been able to cope on a bouncy pitch.

"The majority have not played in these type of conditions," he said. "It is a learning experience for them and hopefully they will learn very quickly."

All-rounder Chris Barnwell hit 30 before he was last man out off the final ball of the Guyana innings

The Guyanese batsmen could not cope with some well-directed short-of-a-length bowling from Kallis, who achieved the rare feat in Twenty20 cricket of bowling a maiden in his four-over spell.

If there were any doubts about Bangalore?s superiority, Kallis dispelled them when he hit two boundaries off Lennox Cush in the first over of the run chase and eased Esuan Crandon for six over midwicket in the second over.
