Judge King to face Cricket South Africa probe next weekJohannesburg, Jan.21 : The inquiry into Cricket SA (CSA) will meet again next week to hear a submission from Judge Mervyn King, the sports ministry has confirmed. Judge King would appear before the inquiry next Friday, Sports24 quoted sports ministry spokesman Paena Galane, as saying. "At this stage, only Judge Mervyn King remains on the schedule. That could change, though, if the committee feels it is necessary to hear submissions from anybody else," he added. King, a former Supreme Court judge, chaired the King Committee on Corporate Governance which issued its last report in 2009. The cricket inquiry, led by Judge Chris Nicholson, met for the first time in December to hear oral submissions. It met again earlier this week when, among others, former United Cricket Board of SA general manager Ali Bacher and former CSA president Norman Arendse appeared before the committee. The Nicholson inquiry was announced by Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula after auditing firm KPMG recommended that CSA''s remuneration and travel allowance policy be reviewed. A KPMG audit found that bonus payments had been kept secret from the federation''s remuneration committee, and that CSA chief executive Gerald Majola had breached the Companies Act on at least four occasions. The committee said it hoped to submit its final report to Mbalula by the end of February. © ANI |
