India origin Oz cricketer Sthalekar describes visit to Pune orphanage as 'surreal'Sydney, Sep 26: Indian origin Australian cricketer Lisa Sthalekar, who is the captain of her team, paid a visit to the same orphanage in Pune from where she was adopted as an infant by her parents, and branded the whole experience as surreal. Sthalekar was in India to launch a book in which she traced her childhood journey to Sydney, her cricket-mad rearing, her life balancing tours with her job at Cricket NSW, and her personal struggles when she felt unable to escape the pressures of either. Sthalekar''s adoptive father is Indian and she recently walked the same spiral staircase to the babies'' room at the orphanage in Pune that her parents climbed to see her before the adoption. “It was a surreal experience,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Sthalekar, as saying. Sthalekar said writing the book was therapeutic, and claimed she had rediscovered a love of cricket that was lost for a while. © ANI |
