Highveld Lions showed no ill effects of a heavy South African SuperSport loss last weekend as they went on a run romp Thursday at home against Eastern Cape Warriors.
The Lions were 323-5 off 96 overs at stumps on the first day of a fourth round game at the Wanderers with unbeaten 81-run Neil McKenzie leading the way for the Johannesburg team.
Former national team player McKenzie faced 157 balls and his stand included eight fours and a six against a Warriors attack in which only Andrew Birch (3-57) developed an appetite for wickets.
Stephen Cook (74), Zander de Bruyn (62) and skipper Alviro Patersen (46) were other significant contributors as the Lions sought to put a 243-run hiding from neighbours Northern Titans behind them.
Defending four-day champions Western Cape Cobras made 246-5 off 96 overs by close of play against the Coastal Dolphins at Newlands as they chased a second consecutive victory after winning at Warriors with a day to spare.
Stiaan van Zyl top scored with an 86 off 195 balls during a 255-minute stand that produced eight fours and Justin Ontong (61) also struck eight fours before being run out by an attack in which Dane Paterson took a brace of wickets.
