Abu Dhabi, Nov 24: Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya has praised Pakistan’s performance on the field.
“Pakistan played brilliantly under the circumstances. Their youngsters have been impressive in all departments and have shown good team spirit,” the Express Tribune quoted Jayasuriya, as saying.
His comments came after Pakistan won both Test and One-Day International series against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul Haq and Umar Akmal hit half- centuries in the final one- day international match at Abu Dhabi leading to Pakistan’s three wicket victory over Sri Lanka, and winning the ODI series 4-1.
The victory came in the wake of three cricketers - former Pakistan captain Salman Butt, and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir jailed by London''s Southwark Crown Court for taking bribes from bookie, Mazhar Majeed to deliberately under perform during the 2010 Lord’s Test against England.
Butt was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison, Asif for a year, while Amir for six months.Jayasuriya added that the spot-fixing verdict should serve as a lesson for all players across the world.
“It’s a lesson for everyone, not only for Pakistan,” he said.
