Ferguson looking forward to fill Hussey's big boots in World CupSydney, Feb 9 South Australian batsman Callum Ferguson, who has replaced injured Michael Hussey in the 15-man Australian World Cup squad, has said that he is ‘absolutely thrilled’ over the opportunity to play in his first World Cup.
“You grow up watching (the World Cup) as a youngster so it’s a dream come true for me to get the opportunity to go over there and be a part of it,” the Age quoted Ferguson, as saying.
“It’s terrible news for Michael Hussey. It’s really disappointing for him, but at the same time I’m absolutely thrilled to be given opportunity.”
“I’ll attempt to fill his shoes, they are big boots to fill, but I’ll do my best to contribute what I can,” he added.
Despite having played only 28 ODIs for Australia, the 26-year-old said that he was relishing the chance to take on the world’s best in the Indian sub-continent.
“I’m not sure it’s daunting, it’s certainly a huge opportunity and an exciting one. No doubt I’ll be able to learn a lot watching how the best players in the world go about it,” Ferguson said. “I’ve played a bit over there (in India) over the years and spent plenty of time on their wickets,” he added. © ANI |
