London, Jun 2: England fast bowler James Anderson is set to be rested for the final Test match against West Indies at Edgbaston after retaining the Wisden Trophy 2-0 with a win at Nottingham in the second Test.
Coach Andy Flower is keen to protect Anderson, who has bowled 111 overs in the two Tests against West Indies so far, from a crippling workload, and believes it is in England’s interest to give a well-merited chance to Steven Finn.
Another bowler who could be rested in the final Test match is Stuart Broad, and another deserving bowler Graham Onions can get an opportunity in his place, The Daily Mail reports.
Broad would be named in the 12-man squad, but the decision on whether to play him hasn’t been made yet, and he will be monitored when England begin practice at Edgbaston on Tuesday ahead of the final Investec Test, which starts on Thursday.
Both Anderson and Broad are keen to carry on bowling, and are against the idea of taking any unwanted rest, but Flower is ready to risk being unpopular with his spearheads for what he considers are the best of reasons.
