England spinner Graeme Swann has been rested from the final three one-day internationals against South Africa, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced Wednesday. Fellow off-break bowler James Tredwell has been called up as cover. Swann is one of a select group of England players who feature in all three international formats. Officials are keen to manage Swann's workload in light of a longstanding elbow injury, especially as England defend their World Twenty20 title in Sri Lanka next month. Swann was one of England's better bowlers, taking two for 50, in their 80-run defeat by South Africa in the second one-day international in Southampton on Tuesday, a result that gave the Proteas a 1-0 lead in the five-match series following last week's no-result washout in Cardiff. The series continues at The Oval on Friday. |
