England has to blame itself for loss to Bangladesh: Strauss

London, July 12: Skipper Andrew Strauss has said that England has only itself to blame for the five-run defeat in the second one-day international played in Bristol on Saturday.

''''For us it''s about going away, licking our wounds and making sure we don''t repeat the same mistakes again on Monday [in the decider at Edgbaston],'''' the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Strauss, as saying.

England lost Ian Bell to a broken metatarsal bone while fielding in the first innings and looked destined to surrender their perfect record against Bangladesh when No.10 batsman Jimmy Anderson was dismissed at the end of the 49th over.

The Bangladeshis started to pull the stumps from the ground in celebration, but those festivities were interrupted when Bell, accompanied by a runner, wandered out to the crease with a hefty guard over his foot.

Jonathan Trott snared four runs from the first two deliveries of the last over, bowled by Shafiul Islam, but on the third ball edged behind to reserve wicketkeeper Jahurul Islam on 94 to hand the visitors victory, without Bell facing a ball.

Newly installed Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza said he and his teammates were elated with the result, Bangladesh''s first win in any format this year.

''''It''s been 250 days since we won so people will be very happy about this win and the dressing-room is very happy,'''' Mortaza said.

Australian Jamie Siddons, the team coach, hoped the result would be the catalyst for the side shedding its status as permanent underdogs.

''''It''s hard to keep getting beaten and keep getting them up,'''' Siddons said.

He added: ''''Now, I think they realise they can beat anyone. It''s unbelievable. I would have thought England were on top of the world and capable of beating everyone. So to beat them at home … it''s a brilliant win.'
