Boos turn into jeers as Pietersen gets out for golden duck following texting furoreLondon, Aug 21: Disgruntled batsman Kevin Pietersen was given a hostile reception from Hampshire’s supporters when he went to bat for Surrey in a CB40 Group B match at the Ageas Bowl on the south coast. Pietersen needs to mend relations with his skipper Andrew Strauss after the text message row, with the England captain having always been a firm believer in unity within the dressing room and in personal responsibility Pietersen was left in no doubt what the public thought about his recent fall-out with England’s hierarchy when he returned to the cricket field on Sunday. The boos turned into gleeful jeers when Pietersen got out for a golden duck. With about 7,000 in the Hampshire ground, when Pietersen’s name was announced as he walked out to bat at the fall of the first Surrey wicket, there was at least a smattering of polite applause among the booing, The Daily Express reports. But when he was bowled by Liam Dawson, yet another left-arm spinner proving his undoing, the fans were on their feet celebrating his demise. © ANI |
