BCCI denies Modi"s allegation of rigging players" bid

Mumbai, Aug 29 : Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Shashank Manohar has denied allegations made by suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi that senior officials fixed the bidding of players for the 2009 tournament.

Modi had claimed that BCCI Secretary N. Srinivasan had fixed the 2009 players'' auction.

Manohar said he had proof to nail Modi''s lie.

"I can show you the documents which clearly demonstrate what Lalit Modi has said is a total lie," said Manohar, after a BCCI meeting held in Mumbai on Saturday.

On being asked whether the video was played out before the BCCI Working Committee, Manohar said: "Yes, it was played before the Working Committee members and they were convinced."

It was reported by the local media that Srinivasan tried to fix the bid for Andrew Fintoff in the favour of Chennai Super Kings.

Srinivasan, however, rubbished all such reports two days ago.

BCCI''s Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty said the video clearly shows that it was an open auction.

"Arising out of the allegations that we have been seeing in the media, particularly electronic media in the last two-three days, the footage of the IPL auction where Andrew Flintoff auction took place, was shown to the members by the President. The footage is very clear that it was an open auction," said Shetty.

He added that Rajasthan Royals bid for dollar 1.5 millions, beyond which they did not have money, as they had spent their money already.

The BCCI had earlier in May given a show cause notice to Modi on charges of financial irregularity.

There are five main charges against Modi, ranging from receiving kickbacks for allotting TV broadcast rights to indiscipline and leveling baseless charges against the BCCI.

He is also facing charges of rigging the bidding of two new IPL teams, which were eventually won by Sahara and the Kochi IPL consortium and also for being a ghost owner in three IPL teams.

Modi has claimed that he has submitted most of the relevant IPL documents.

They include all franchisee agreements, global media rights agreements, the global media rights packages, bid documents, media rights licensee agreements, eligibility letters of all bidders with details and all sponsorship agreements entered into by IPL.
