Bangladesh humble Windies in dead rubberBangladesh might have lost the series but put up a spirited performance with the ball to win a dead rubber. Former skipper Shaqibul Hassan who took 4 for 16 led bowling show saw them dismiss timid West Indies for a sorry 61 in 22 overs on a very sluggish Chittagong track. If Bangladesh bowling was spirited, West Indies batsmen were poor and didn’t appear to up for the challenge. It took only 20 overs for the home side to round off the target with opener Tamim Iqbal remaining unbeaten on 36 off 62 balls. In the mini-chase, Bangladesh lost wickets of Imrul Kayes and Shahriar Nafees before skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim saw them through. Putting West Indies into bat after rain delay, Bangladesh made most of the pitch on which shot making was very difficult to decimate the tourists’ batting lineup. West Indies were reckless and lacked application to lose wickets in a blink. The tourists had slow start to the proceedings reaching 30 for 1 in ten overs but fell apart to lose next nine wickets for 28 runs. Barring Kieran Powell none of the West Indies batsmen could offer resistance as nine of them failed to cross double figures mark. For Bangladesh, Shaqibul was the star with his left arm spin taking four for 16 in his five overs. Nasir Hossain’s two overs yielded him as many wickets to play a crucial role in West Indies’ demise. Seamers Shafiul Islam and Nazmul Hossain bowled beautifully upfront to claim two and one wicket respectively. Suhawardi Shuvo was also amongst the wickets removing Andre Russell. Powell’s 25 was only shinning light in the dismal performance as young opener hit four of the five boundaries hit in the innings on his way to a 36-ball 25. Darren Bravo and Kieran Pollard both went for ducks, Marlon Samuels could only five, Darren Sammy four and Denesh Ramdin couldn’t last long as well. Today’s game would given the home supporters a good feeling for their side had suffered similar humiliation at the hands of West Indies in the world cup that led to Bangladesh’s exit. © eContent.in |
