Former Australian Test opener Phil Jaques said Tuesday he is retiring from domestic first class cricket to play for English county side Yorkshire.
Jaques played 11 Tests for Australia, scoring three centuries and averaging 47.47, and looked to set for a long run at the top of the batting lineup until he was struck down by a serious back injury.
The 32-year-old has played for New South Wales since making his first class debut in 2001 and has been a regular on the English county circuit, with spells at Worcestershire, Northamptonshire and Yorkshire.
He said he had made the decision for family reasons.
"I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my career. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time playing cricket for NSW and Australia and have always considered it a privilege," he said.
"I walk away with no regrets knowing that I have given 100 percent every time I have walked onto the ground and I will continue to do this until the end of the season."
