Sydney, Feb 13: Australian batsman Mike Hussey has defended the team’s dismal batting performance in Friday’s third ODI in Sydney, saying that it was West Indies who dodged a bullet.
Australia remained on track for a “perfect summer” after the Sydney ODI was washed out, but West Indies, for the first time this series, looked fully capable of bringing the golden run to an end.
Hussey, however, said Australia were disappointed that they could not extend their 2-0 series lead and was looking forward to the fourth ODI at the Gabba on Sunday.
“I think they bowled well, but 225 would have been a very, very challenging score on that pitch,” Fox News quoted Hussey, as saying.
“It was two-paced, and quite a bit of seam movement. With our attack...we would have been very confident,” he added.
Hussey further said the team has learnt crucial lessons from the past mistakes when it comes to player rehabilitation.
“I think our performances in one-day cricket have dropped a bit because we have kept training hard,” Hussey said.
“We have been beaten in a few series by India and by the English - and I think it came down to fatigue. So, definitely it has been a plan of the group to focus on rehab,” he added.
