Sydney, Oct 15 : Australian opener David Warner is confident of facing the South African pace attack that he rates as the world’s best, after playing just one first-class match in six months.
The Test opener will be relying on net sessions, facing young pacers Mitchell Starc and Patrick Cummins in Cape Town this week, and possibly a Shield game early next month, to adjust to the longer-format before the test against Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel.
Warner has not played since the final Test of the Caribbean tour in late April, and his Twenty20 duties prevented him from playing for NSW at the start of the Shield season, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
“I can''t remember the last time I left a ball in the last three months. It''ll be a good thing for me and a test for myself to get back to the habit of leaving good balls on good line and length.
That''s the key for me - to make sure my mind''s switched on and thinking patience but also being aggressive at the same time,” Warner joked in South Africa, where he is representing Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League.
Warner has a solid average of 42 and two centuries, but they have come against bowling attacks vastly inferior to that he will face next month.
