'Cricket Australia should put best Test team in park instead of relying on rotation policy'

Melbourne, Jan 22 : Australian pacer Brett Lee has warned Cricket Australia against the temptation to rest fast bowlers in line with its rotation policy, saying the selectors'' job is to pick up the best players to lead the Test attack.

''''I''m here or there with the 50-over game in that guys might need a rest because there is so much of it played. Twenty20 is obviously ''do what you want'' because that''s the game - you amp it up,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Lee, as saying.

''''However, for Test match cricket you put the best on the park every time. Guys have to be fit and strong enough to get through and play a whole Test series. It''s a fact of cricketing life that along the way things do happen, players will get injured but that creates opportunity for others,'''' he added.

His statement came amid calls for Pat Cummins to withdraw from the 2012 Indian Premier League. Victorian paceman Peter Siddle had echoed the same view at the suggestion that he was in line to be rested for the Adelaide Test under the team''s new rotation policy.

Lee stressed that pace bowlers needed to retain their toughness.

''''It''s important we don''t ''baby'' our fast bowlers, but at the same time we don''t want to burn them out It''s a balancing act, but as I''ve said, I''m a firm believer in picking our best people for Test matches. We should always put our best Test team on the park,'''' he added.

Lee said his ability to bowl at speeds of upto 150 kilometers/hour even after 20 years is one of his proudest career achievements.

But he expressed concerns that an emphasis on a need for speed could hit his contemporaries.
