Off-spinner James Tredwell staked a claim for a place in the England Test squad after picking 6-95 in a three-day tour match against a Bangladesh A side on Sunday. Tredwell, who made his international debut during the recent one-day series against Bangladesh, was the pick of the England bowlers and impressed with his line and length during a stint of 27.3 overs. Seamer Steven Finn took two wickets in an over, less than 24 hours after arriving in Bangladesh, as the home team were bowled out for 202 on the opening day of the warm-up game after electing to bat. Raqibul Hasan scored an unbeaten 165-ball 107, hitting 15 fours and three sixes. At stumps, the visitors were 68-3, losing openers Michael Carberry (five) and Alastair Cook (19), and Kevin Pietersen for two. Paul Collingwood missed the match due to shoulder pain but the England team management said he will be available for selection for the first Test beginning in Chittagong on March 12. The tourists have been hit by a spate of injuries with paceman Ryan Sidebottom already back in England, and Stuart Broad and Graham Onions doubtful for the first Test. The second and final Test will be played in Dhaka from March 20. Bangladesh A: 202 (Raqibul Hasan 107 not out; J. Tredwell 6-95, S. Finn 2-13). England XI: 68-3 (A. Cook 19, J. Trott 32 not out; Mehrab Hossain 1-3). |
