Bangladesh staged a late fightback, after West Indies-A fast bowler Kemar Roach and off-spinner Ryan Austin bowled them out for 195 in the opening match of their Caribbean tour on Friday.

New Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza removed opener Adrian Barath for four and senior West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons for seven, as the A-Team reached 82 for four at the close on the opening day of the three-day match at Kensington Oval.

Mortaza ended the day with two wickets for 14 runs from six overs, as the tourists put early pressure on the home team, whose captain Sewnarine Chattergoon, a West Indies left-handed batsman, was holding things together for his side with 38 not out.

Roach captured five for 62 from 17 overs, and off-spinner Austin, his fellow Barbadian, supported with five for 71 off 22.5 overs, as Bangladesh were bowled out about 35 minutes after tea.

Several of Bangladesh's top-order batsmen got starts, but Mohammad Ashraful, batting at five, struck five fours and one six in an even 50 from 82 balls in close to an hour-and-a-half to lead the way.

The visitors dipped to 99 for three, after they won the toss and chose to bat, and then the loose-limbed Austin inflicted further damage when he removed Raqibul Hasan for 26 and Shakib Al Hasan for a duck in successive overs to leave Bangladesh 122 for five.

Once Ashraful was caught in the deep off Roach, Bangladesh lost their last three wickets for 10 runs in the space of 11 balls.

Brief scores:

BANGLADESH: 195 (Mohammad Ashraful 50, Junaed Siddique 29, Raqibul Hassan 26, Tamim Iqbal 23, Imrul Kayes 21; Kemar Roach 5-62, Ryan Austin 5-71)

WEST INDIES-A: 82 for four (Sewnarine Chattergoon 38 not out; Mashrafe Mortaza 2-14)
