Hamilton, Mar.8: Canterbury shot-maker Jesse Ryder has proofed his fitness, and may get a chance to play against Australia, reports the Dominion Post.
The Black Caps all-rounder made a low-key return to cricket on Saturday, scoring 11 runs for his club Naenae Old Boys against Karori.
Ryder trudged off after pulling a Lee Edwards delivery to square leg, but proved his fitness by bowling 11 overs of medium pace for just 10 runs.
New Zealand Cricket's medical staff wants Ryder to play first for Wellington in the Plunket Shield. If successful, the Black Caps' selectors would be tempted to take a punt on his undoubted class.
The left-handed Ryder, 25, averages close to 50 in test cricket.
The first Test against Australia begins on March 19 at the Basin Reserve.
The second in Hamilton starts on March 27. (ANI)
