London, Jan 31 : Former England off-spinner John Emburey believes that off-spinner Graeme Swann has established himself as a world-class cricketer with his performances with both bat and ball against Australia and South Africa.
“Graeme has already proved that he is a match-winner. He’s a fantastic bowler and he has matured over the past two or three years. He only had himself to blame before that, but now he’s at the age when spin bowlers come to the fore – their late twenties and early thirties,” Express quoted Emburey, as saying.
“Its all about understanding the game and having the control to do whatever you want. He has a big advantage in that he does actually spin the ball. He is a bigger spinner than I ever was and he has control, which makes him the complete spinner,” he added.
Emburey further said that Swann will get better in the next few years and he will improve all the time.
While Swann’s star has continued to rise, fellow spinner Monty Panesar has seen his career fall away rapidly since losing his central contract last September, Emburey believes that he could also play a key role for England in the future.
“Monty’s already proved that he is a match-winning bowler, and once he gets back to where he was, he will be a great foil for Swann at the other end,” Emburey said.
“Monty still has a future with England. Both him and Graeme could work well on the sub-continent and on some of the wickets overseas,” he added.
