Windies batting star Chanderpaul can expect `chin music from Aussies

Brisbane, Nov.24 (ANI): West Indies batting star Shivnarain Chanderpaul can expect “ chin music” from the Australians when the two sides begin their Test series clash at the Gabba here from Thursday.

The Australians have revealed that they plan to give Chanderpaul Kookaburra-seam haircuts with a barrage of bouncers this summer.

The Caribbean's most stubborn batsman proved Australia's greatest hurdle during a Test series last year and, having run out of ideas to get him out, Ricky Ponting's side will rely on the harder and faster Australian pitches to get Chanderpaul ducking for cover.

The world's fourth-ranked Test batsman, Chanderpaul averaged an astonishing 147.33 against Australia last year after making scores of 118, 11, 107 not out, 77 not out, 79 not out and 50.

'We couldn't get him out. I think the wickets here will help a little bit more, the wickets we played in in the Caribbean just didn't bounce at all,” The Age quoted Australian captain Ricky Ponting, as saying.

"The way he plays, his technique, the ball bouncing on him will be something that he mightn't cope with as well. When you've got Johnson, Siddle and Hilfenhaus and Bollinger in your squad, guys who get a little bit more bounce out of the track, then hopefully we can look like getting him out,' he added.

Siddle was clear in what the 35-year-old Chanderpaul, who averages 49.28 from 121 Tests, can expect.

'We're all pretty aggressive bowlers, especially myself and Mitchell, we'll look to get at him and try to intimidate him. He has got a different technique. The wickets are a lot different to what they would have played on just over a year ago in the West Indies,” he said.

Australia has identified the middle-order of Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo as the strength of the team and believes once they're gone their inexperienced tail will crumble.

The Windies, rank outsiders for the three-Test series, however, remain confident despite the tough talk from the home side.

Pacer Jerome Taylor said:  ' We are conditioned in our minds to go out and put up a good fight and to take it to the Australians. The pressure should not be on us.”
