Omitting Anderson is a mistake, says Cork

Leaving out James Anderson for this weekend's big money match with the Stanford Superstars was a big mistake, former England bowler Dominic Cork said Friday.

Cork's comments came shortly after England revealed its XI for the 20-overs game against a West Indies select team for 20 million dollars - the biggest prize for a single cricket match in history.

England chose Nottinghamshire spinner Graeme Swann ahead of Anderson despite the Lancashire seamer being a regular in the one-day side.

The wicket at the Stanford Cricket Ground in Antigua where the clash will take place has been conducive to spin but Cork believes Anderson's ability to bowl tight at the death should have guaranteed him a place.

"Somebody has got to bowl that last over for a million dollars," the former England all-rounder told Sky Sports News.

"Anderson has bowled well at the end of some one-day games so I'd put my money on Anderson and not (Luke) Wright to bowl well at the death."

Anderson will share one million dollars with Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara and Ryan Sidebottom if England win despite being excluded from the team, but Cork still feels sorry for his former Lancashire team-mate.

"He'll feel a lot less poor if they win," said Cork. "They are still going to get hell of a lot of money for being 12th man.

"But Anderson will be gutted. He will be annoyed at being out of the one-day side after a year in it.

"He was asked to step up to the plate in the Tests and he did so. He has come in for a bit of stick but he has improved as a cricketer and person."

England team

Kevin Pietersen (capt), Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison, Samit Patel, Matt Prior (wk), Owais Shah, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright.
