Kenya's cricket team has lost its ability to perform and may not measure up against any foreign opposition, a former national cricket official said on Tuesday. The warning, by the former Kenya Cricket Association (KCA) chairman Sharad Ghai, comes a week before the country hosts an international one-day triangular series which will also involve Ireland and Zimbabwe. "We are not as good as we used to be. The players don't have the heart to perform and they are not a cohesive team," Ghai said. The team has been at the receiving end of two below-par preformances in Europe and against the visiting Pakistan Cricket Academy where they lost in all the two four-day matches and five one-day fixtures. Ghai, who was at the helm when Kenya reached the semi-finals of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, said the current problems affecting the team stemmed from lack of a proper youth development. "Our domestic cricket is at the lowest ebb ever. We know what is wrong but we are not seeking a remedy. Instead we are naming task-forces to investigate the circumstances," Ghai added. "The only way forward is to resusciate the national development programme, identify new talents to replace the aging national team players and the game will back on its feet." |
