Australian Test batsman Chris Rogers will leave Western Australia and play interstate cricket for Victoria next season, WA officials said Monday.

Rogers, a left-hand opening batsman, made his Test debut against India in Perth last January, scoring four and 15.

WACA chief executive Graeme Wood said 30-year-old Rogers on Monday advised state team head coach Tom Moody that he would be playing in Victoria next season.

His decision to leave disappointed WA officials and Wood said WACA Board members, senior management and coaching staff had met with Rogers several times to discuss his future.

"It is bewildering that Chris has chosen to walk away from playing regularly at the WACA Ground, a ground where he has had so much success as a player on one of the best pitches in Australia," Wood, a former Test opening batsman, said in a statement.

"Many of Chris teammates have also spoken to him in the hope of convincing him to stay for what promises to be an exciting future for WA cricket."

Rogers scored 5,524 runs in 65 games in a 10-year playing career with WA at an average of 48.46 with 17 centuries.
