Strife-torn Kenya has been forced to switch an Intercontinental Cup tie to the United Arab Emirates due to the violence which has swept the country.

Kenya had been due to face fellow Africans Namibia in Nairobi from January 30 until February 2.

But the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Sunday that the game will now be played in Sharjah from January 29 to February 1.

ICC's High Performance Manager Richard Done said: "It is difficult at any time to make late changes to international tours and this decision is no different because of the interest in cricket in Kenya`. However, the safety of all participants is always our number-one priority."

Chairman of Cricket Kenya, Samir Inamdar, said he understood the reasons behind the decision.

"It is unfortunate that the ICC Intercontinental Cup match has had to be shifted from Nairobi," said Inamdar.

"It is an extremely important tournament for the development of the game in Kenya and it would also have been an excellent opportunity for the local supporters to see their team in action.

"Although hosting is always our preference, we understand and accept the reasons and believe that these games should go ahead with some certainty."
